RJ Magee is a professional educator, actor, director, talent manager, and casting director. He maintains his professional obligations, outside of academia, so that he can constantly train, advise, support, and prepare his students through the lens of what is expected of them in the professional world. He brings an unmatched 'boots on the ground' approach to educating young theatre artists. Simply put: RJ's top priority is to be the best theatre professor he can be. He does this by keeping a hand in other parts of the business, while also building a vibrant and inclusive classroom environment that is filled with curiosity and discovery.
A graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, RJ holds a BA from Temple University and an MFA from Minnesota State University, Mankato. RJ recently concluded appointments as the Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre/Acting at both Midwestern State University and Longwood University.
RJ constantly goes above and beyond for his students, tapping into his many contacts/resources to provide them with unmatched opportunities. He helped procure a full scholarship for one student to attend the Broadway Dreams Foundation's Dallas Intensive. Additionally, his Musical Theatre Performance class collaborated with Pyramid, Inc, an arts-focused, non-profit Adult Day Training program for adults with intellectual disabilities. These are just some examples of the connections and resources that he brings to his institutions.
He has also worked as a guest artist, workshop instructor, and adjudicator at prestigious training programs and conferences including the Western Illinois University, University of Alabama, Oregon Thespians State Festival, Elon University, Virginia Theatre Association, Weber State University, Florida Thespians State Festival, KCACTF Region V, Perry-Mansfield, Actors Connection, and many more. At the 2025 Musical Theatre Educators' Alliance Conference in NYC, RJ spoke as an invited panelist on the topic, “Acting Methodologies and Collaborating with Non-MT Performance Faculty.”
During his time at Longwood, RJ received a formal commendation from CHI, the oldest service organization at Longwood, for the ways he “reinvigorated Longwood’s Theatre department.” The letter from CHI stated, “As a new professor at Longwood, your students have felt your unwavering support and passion as they pursue their lives in theatre.”
